Oprah Winfrey, 56, discovered a half-sister she never knew she had. Named Patricia, the sibling was given up for adoption as a child in 1963, and now lives in Milwaukee, Wisc. She learned about the long-lost relative in November, and they met up in November. Patricia had long been searching for the identity of the mother who gave her up for adoption; in 2007, she discovered that world-famous Winfrey was her half-sister. As for Oprah, she says she was 9 years old and living with her father, Vernon, when her mother gave birth to Patricia and gave her up. Winfrey didn't even know about her mom's pregnancy, she says. She added that the news "literally shook me to my core." Oprah has been frank on her show about her difficult past: She was born into poverty, sexually abused at a young age and lost a baby at age 14.

Oprah Gail Winfrey was born into shortage in rural Mississippi to a adolescent single mother and later raised in an inner-city Milwaukee district. She was a celebrity andknowledgeable significant hardship during her childhood, counting being raped at the age of nine and becoming pregnant at 14 age; her son died in infancy. She Sent to live with the man she calls her father, a barber in Tennessee, Winfrey landed a job in radio while still in high school and began co-anchoring the local evening news at the age of 19. Her moving ad-lib delivery eventually got her transferred to the daytime talk show arena, and after boosting a third-rated local Chicago talk show to first place she launched her own construction company and became internationally syndicated.Qualified with creating a more cherished confessional form of media announcement, she is thought to have popularized and revolutionized the sensationalist talk show genre pioneered by Phil Donahue, which a Yale study claims broke 20th century taboos and allowed LGBT people to enter the conventional, the mid 1990s she had reinvented her show with a focus on literature, self-improvement, and theology. Although criticized for unleashing acknowledgment culture and promoting controversial self-help fads, she is generally admired for overcoming adversity to become a benefactor to others.
